A little about Pheonix
Phoenix is a ordinary 17 year old boy that has big dreams. Phoenix's ethnicity is half Samoan and half "skuxx" 😏(cool). Pheonix was born in Samoa. His family was very poor and always moved schools, so he didn't have a lot of close friends. One day he was asked to join a hip hop dance group, of course he said yes! Now Pheonix is a hip hop dancer and has traveled for dance competitions all over the world! In September Pheonix has a movie coming out called 'Born to to dance' featuring Stan Walker!
What I have taken from Pheonix is that whenever a chance or opportunity comes up always take the risk and have ago!
Overall it was great listening to these inspiring people. It has given me the confidence to try new things and to be a better leader.

On the 12th of May, the year 8s went to National Young Leaders Day in Dunedin and listened to 8 inspirational speakers.
The people were William Pike, Tamsin Cooper, Chris Jupp, Steve Gurney, Phoenix Pule'Anga, Sarah Dippie, Sam Kilsby and Jamie McDell.
The reason we went there was because we are young leaders.
William Pike was my favourite because he was really inspirational and had a really interesting story.

William Pikes Story
When William Pike became a teacher he decided to take his pupils to the top of Mount Ruapehu which is surrounded by a Volcano. While staying on the mountain the volcano erupted!! William's got stuck in a mixture of rock and water that had frozen around his leg. His mate, who was with him, ran down the hill and got a snow cat. They got William on the back of the snow cat and went down the hill. After two helicopter rides, he got to the hospital. His body temperature was 25 degrees and anyone with a body temperature below 27 should be dead! His legs had got frostbite and were left with massive holes. When he woke up from his surgery he had no idea what had happened, but he didn't care he was alive. He soon realized his leg had been amputated.
I was inspired by the fact he had lost his leg and he didn't let that stop him, no! Instead, he kept perusing what he loved.

And that's why I really liked William Pike.

I found Tamsin Cooper the most interesting because she was really inspiring. Tamsin Cooper is a fashion designer, she designs clothes and accessories. I learned that you don't need to big factory's to produce clothing lines, as Tamsin gets ladies in the north of Vietnam to do all her embroidery for her designs. This not only helps her but also employs people needing jobs. While Tamsin was growing up she wanted to be a princess, farmer, actor and ballerina. This taught me that you can have many dreams and do many things in your life.
The speaker who inspired me the most was Chris Jupp. His story of being bullied in school and being a nobody to becoming a leader of the 40hour famine was incredible! His story intrigued me and made me want to step up and give those who are in need a voice. Chris Jupp inspired me greatly to become a leader and stand up for what I believe in!
