On Wednesday last week the Senior Room were lucky enough to have another careers speaker to come and speak to them. This time we had Annie Jackson from the Clutha Vets came to inform the students about the variety of jobs a vet is responsible for.
Annie told us that vets are like detectives because, unlike humans, animals aren't able to tell them what's wrong with them. Vets have to go through a process of elimination to decipher what is causing animals distress. Annie showed us some of the equipment that is used to help them with this process. A stethoscope to listen for animals heart beat and a thermometer to check animals temperature were some of the equipment Annie brought in to school.
We also got to go out to Annie's vet truck and look at all sorts of equipment and resources she used when she goes out to farms. Most of the equipment in her truck was for larger animals like horses, deer, cows etc.
It was a thoroughly informative and interesting afternoon and we had some very good questions that came from the students. We might have some budding vets on our hands!!
