Sports Activator - Striking with the feet

On Monday the 27th we had sports activator with Greer. The Senior Room learned some soccer skills, like how to dribble, what part of the foot to use to kick and how to manoeuvre the ball around people.

First up we played a game of Donkey Tails to get warmed up. Donkey Tails is a game where you have to tuck your bibs into your shorts as a tail and everyone is trying to take your tail off you. The aim of the game is to get the most tails.

After that we played a game to test our dribbling skills, where we had to dribble the ball around the area. We were allowed to kick other people's ball out of the square. An addition to this we played a game called Shark Attack. This was when someone was 'in' and everyone else had to try and protect their ball so the "Shark" couldn't kick our ball out.

Penultimately we had a competition, which was a lot like ten pin bowling, where we took turns at kicking soccer balls off cones. Each team had six balls they had to try and knock off the cones. It was an excellent game where people showed their competitive side. #blueteamwerethewinners

Finally we took part in an activity called Number Soccer. We split into two teams and Greer would call a number and that number of people ran around a cone and had to score a goal. We had to work together to get a goal or stop the other team from scoring. This taught us to use eye-foot co-ordination and we had to be on attack and defence at all times.

Buddy Reading

Last Friday the Senior Room starting doing buddy reading with our Junior Room students today along with helping them with their spelling testing! This is a new initiative that is going to happen every Friday. It's awesome that we can help the Junior Room with their reading and spelling and it shows great leadership for our students.

Frank and Chip

Today we had three very special visitors in the Senior Room; Janelle, Frank and Chip. Frank is a baby possum and Chip is a baby rooster. After their exciting visit we decided to write about them and describe different features. Here is what some of the students had to write about them.

George wrote: Janelle walked in the door into the classroom with a white bucket. Colour - Janelle let the chicken out of the bucket. The chicken was almost camouflaged because it was so white. Texture- The feathers were soft. Chip had a hard crown and it was very bumpy. The beak was hard and smooth. Shape - Chip had a round body. It’s head was a round circle. Chip’s legs looks like sticks Chip was a really nice chicken and it was really loud.

James wrote: Ashley screamed! As he was clawed at he ran around. “Ashley! Stop!” Frank the baby possum smelled like dishwashing powder and sulfur. When you went right up to him and smelled him the stench of washing machine powder and sulfur filled your nose. He smelled fresh and clean but at the same time he also smelled bad. Frank felt so fluffy like a cosy blanket that you would want to lie under all night it was that warm it felt like a fluffy kitten. His nose was squishy like a stress ball. Frank’s claws were hard like a piece of metal. Frank has cinnamon brown fur on his head tail feet and body. His feet were a mix of pink and skin color. Frank had brown eyes and slightly transparent yellow brown and white claws the underneath of his tail was the same color as his feet the inside of his ear was light brown.

Ashley wrote: As Janelle walked into the room I heard “chirp, chirp” What is it? the mystery lies ahead. Janelle unravels a blanket and Holly takes the cover off the white bucket “chirp chirp”. As a head popped up it was a chicken and its name was Chip. The smell of Chip was unbearable. He smells like out of date mustard. It's colour was yellow mixed with white It was a great and his feet were short and he had duck feet and I think he was really neat and friendly the one thing I was afraid I was going to picking out eye. Has texture was soft and furry chip loved people.

Holly wrote: The baby Possum has a thick, bushy tail, a pointed short snout and a long, fox-like straight ears. Frank is a baby Possum, he is somewhere in between 5 to 6 months old and is really cute. We got Frank because one day Dad and I went to check the possum traps and in the last possum trap there was a mother possum who had a joey in her pouch, Dad told me to go back up to the truck with her and start plucking, while he reset the trap, but when he came back and I was sitting in the truck he turned over the possum and said “Holly, where is that joey”. When we got home went to show mum when she said to go put him in a sock, so about 6 weeks later he is getting really big and we were going to take him to school. We saved chip by taking him out of his egg shell and putting him under a heat lamp to warm him up. About 5 weeks later I went home to help mum bring Frank and our new baby chip the chick, When we got into the classroom everybody was on there feet and wanting to see and give them a cuddle. Everybody was fussing over the animals, and when Frank darted to the nearest person everybody started really still, all except Ashley, who, for his reward got Frank climbing all over him and giving him scratches.

David wrote: We had a moving tree hunter in our class today and he attacked my friend. Frank the possum’s fur colour is bistre. Bistre is a mix in between light brown and dark brown. Frank is pale magenta under his tale and under his paws, pale magenta is a light pink with a little bit of dark pink added. Frank the possums fur is very fluffy but also very short. Franks fur feels very soft and smooth but is really scruffy. He has no fur under his tale. Franks claws are really sharp and if he was in the wild he would use them a lot to get away from animals he thinks could hurt him. He used his razor sharp claws to climb up my friend because he thought he was a tree and he thought someone was going to attack him.

Cooper wrote: As Janelle walked in the door she had a bucket and a blanket...what is it? I can't wait to find out the mystery. I saw a blanket. I wonder what would be inside of it. I bet you it's a possum! It was a possum and it was a possum I thought the possum what I had somewhat more white on him and she smells like old a mustard mixed with old poop Frank and Chip on PhotoPeach

Identity Taguls

One of our "Who Am I?" start of the year activities was to create a Tagul that had words to describe ourselves. These have turned out very well and I think they look very effective on the wall. Can you work out who we all are??

Athletics

Sports Activator - Athletics on PhotoPeach We recently started athletics training in the afternoons and in between rain showers we have managed to get some practice at long jump, high jump, shotput and discus. Today Greer came to visit for the first time in 2017! She did some shot put and discus practice with us and at the end of the session we were lucky enough to have a go at the hammer throw. This was very interesting to watch and Miss Taylor had to make sure she was out of the way of the flying hammers! The students are doing very with the training and trying their best in all activities. We look forward to seeing these trainings pay off at Small School Athletics on Monday (20th Feb).

Swimming

This week the whole school have started swimming lessons at Clinton Pool. We have groups learning lots of new skills and getting a refresher in skills learned in previous lessons. Students are learning things from floating, streamline to tumble-turns and diving! We are very lucky and thankful that we have a great facility like Clinton Pool only a short drive away! Thank you to all of our amazing parents who have been and will be helping us out. We couldn't do it without you!
