Amy's morning program on lopper

Today Amy brought her rabbit lopper to school. He got his name because of his ears because they lop down.
Lopper is Lachies rabbits brother. Amy has had lopper for 3 months. Loppers favourite place inside is behind Amy's dads chair.
If you bang on the ground lopper would take it as a sign of danger.
Amy was going to bring izzy her other rabbit as well, but she's scared of people,

National Young Leaders Day

On Monday the Year 8 Student's attended  National Young Leader's Day in Dunedin.  They have each written about their experience and one specific person who inspired them the most. Take a look Below!

On Monday the 11th of May, the 4 year 8s went to National Young Leader's Day in Dunedin.  This is where inspiring people come to talk about their life and how they got to where they are now.  This year these people included William Pike, Tamsin Cooper, Chris Jupp, Pheonix pule'Anga, Sarah Dippie, Jamie McDell, Sam Kilsby and Steve Gurney. Out of them all Pheonix Pule'Anga was my favourite because he said to join different groups and find out what you are good at.
A little about Pheonix
Phoenix is a ordinary 17 year old boy that has big dreams. Phoenix's ethnicity is half Samoan and half "skuxx" 😏(cool). Pheonix was born in Samoa. His family was very poor and always moved schools, so he didn't have a lot of close friends. One day he was asked to join a hip hop dance group, of course he said yes! Now Pheonix is a hip hop dancer and has traveled for dance competitions all over the world! In September Pheonix has a movie coming out called 'Born to to dance' featuring Stan Walker!
What I have taken from Pheonix is that whenever a chance or opportunity comes up always take the risk and have ago!
Overall it was great listening to these inspiring people. It has given me the confidence to try new things and to be a better leader.

On the 12th of May, the year 8s went to National Young Leaders Day in Dunedin and listened to 8   inspirational speakers.
The people were William Pike, Tamsin Cooper, Chris Jupp, Steve Gurney, Phoenix Pule'Anga, Sarah Dippie, Sam Kilsby and  Jamie McDell.
The reason we went there was because we are young leaders.
William Pike was my favourite because he was really inspirational and had a really interesting story.
William Pikes Story
When William Pike became a teacher he decided to take his pupils to the top of Mount Ruapehu which is surrounded by a Volcano. While staying on the mountain the volcano erupted!! William's got stuck in a mixture of rock and water that had frozen around his leg. His mate, who was with him, ran down the hill and got a snow cat. They got William on the back of the snow cat and went down the hill. After two helicopter rides, he got to the hospital.  His body temperature was 25 degrees and anyone with a body temperature below 27 should be dead! His legs had got frostbite and were left with massive holes. When he woke up from his surgery he had no idea what had happened, but he didn't care he was alive. He soon realized his leg had been amputated.
I was inspired by the fact he had lost his leg and he didn't let that stop him, no! Instead, he kept perusing what he loved.
And that's why I really liked William Pike.

On the 11th of May, the year 8s and Miss Ward went to N.Y.L.D in Dunedin. The speakers were William Pike, Tamsin Cooper, Chris Jupp, Steve Gurney, Phoenix Pule'Anga, Sarah Dippie, Sam Kilsby and a special guest Jamie McDell.

I found Tamsin Cooper the most interesting because she was really inspiring. Tamsin Cooper is a fashion designer, she designs clothes and accessories. I learned that you don't need to big factory's to produce clothing lines, as Tamsin gets ladies in the north of Vietnam to do all her embroidery for her designs. This not only helps her but also employs people needing jobs. While Tamsin was growing up she wanted to be a princess, farmer, actor and ballerina. This taught me that you can have many dreams and do many things in your life.

On Monday the 11th of May, the Yr 8's listened to 8 inspiring speakers at the Dunedin Town Hall. The speakers were, William Pike, Tamsin Cooper, Chris Jupp, Steve Gurney, Phoenix Pule'Anga, Sarah Dippie, Sam Kilsby and Jamie McDell! They all talked about what it is to be a leader and their journeys to becoming who they are now.
The speaker who inspired me the most was Chris Jupp.  His story of being bullied in school and being a nobody to becoming a leader of the 40hour famine was incredible! His story intrigued me and made me want to step up and give those who are in need a voice. Chris Jupp inspired me greatly to become a leader and stand up for what I believe in!
This experience was a great opportunity and if I had the chance I would love to go again and learn a little bit more about becoming a leader.

Stewart Island - Year 7 & 8 trip

Stewart Island 2015!

Wow! What a trip. On the 30th of April/ 1st of May, the year 7 & 8s were lucky enough to visit Stewart Island.
We left school at 6:00am and set off on our journey to Bluff, here we caught the ferry to Stewart Island. The conditions were very rough over to Stewart Island and this made some people a tad sick. Once we arrived at Stewart Island we collected our luggage and got on a shuttle to the house we were staying at.
After lunch, we set off for an Inlet Cruise to Ulva Island, however due to Miss Mosley not reading the fine print we went to the wrong wharf! luckily they cruised around to the Paterson Inlet to pick us up.
Ulva Island was full of interesting native birds, plants and history that our fantastic tour guide shared with us. We went out for tea at the local pub where we enjoyed some of the local seafood. It was delicious. We all got Coca Cola and raspberry drinks which left us all bouncing off the walls. later that night we settled down and watched a movie while eating lollies and popcorn.
The next day we went for a walk to explore the Island. We went fishing off the main wharf and had ice creams. After that, we caught the ferry home which was a rough trip once again. Luckily no one was sick this time.
We would like to thank the parent helpers Kelly and Warren as well as Miss Ward and Miss Mosley for organising this trip to Stewart Island. Overall we had an amazing time!
