Morning Programme - Teach Me

On Friday we were treated to Maddie teaching us two different things. She taught us some origami and all students made a paper plane. Students had to follow Maddie's instructions and listen carefully to make sure they were folding their paper correctly. Koben must have listened very well as his plane flew the furtherest.

Maddie's second teach me was teaching the class a game called Jenga Boom! This game got the hearts pounding as the ticking kept going while playing Jenga. After a minute whoever's turn it is when the BOOM goes off is eliminated from the game.

Thank you Maddie for your morning programme.

Inquiry - Finding Out! South Otago Museum Visit

Museum visitor

Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from Gary from the South Otago Museum. We learnt about the early days of Waiwera South, the founding families and how we could research our own families/family trees. This was great as it related to our inquiry topic ‘What Can I Tell You About Me’ as the children were able to find out more about the place that they live and get an understanding of what sort of information they might want to find out about their own families.

Morning Programme - Teach Me

On Tuesday George and Cooper were on "Teach Me" for Morning Programme. George brought along a possum trap and taught us how to set it up and how a possum is caught in it. Cooper showed us how to make a lava lamp using oil, disprin, food colouring and water. Thank you boys for teaching us something new.

Ruth from Clutha Youth!

Today we had a visit from Ruth Radcliffe, who is the Clutha District Youth Manager. She came in and did some drama and games with us. Ruth is a very enthusiastic person and the children thrive when she is around!  We all had an enjoyable time participating in her games, even Miss Taylor!, with lots of laughter and team work! Ruth is coming in once a term to keep working on our team work, confidence and social skills.

Doing a quick warm up game to get our brains tuned in.

About to play "the sun shines on..."

Playing the number line game.

Get NZ Writing

At the beginning of the year Miss Holden, Miss Chapman and myself signed our classes up for a "Get NZ Writing' initiative by School Kit NZ. We weren't sure exactly what was involved but knew that we had to write to another school and that we would receive writing back from the same school.

Our School Kit was delivered to school last week and we have been busy getting our class identity poster completed. We now know that our task is to write metaphors about ourselves on postcards to send back to a year 5&6 class at Taradale School.

This week there has been some excitement in the Senior Room, as we received a parcel from Taradale School in Napier. We opened the package with anticipation and found the classroom identity poster and 32 hand written postcards with beautiful metaphors written on them. With all 32 postcards making a puzzle on the reverse side which says "Talk with people who see the world differently" You can see the metaphors, the puzzle and the class identity poster on our classroom door!

We are now in the process of writing our own metaphors to describe ourselves! It has been great to get some inspiration from Room 9 at Taradale Primary School.

The puzzle was made...

...and is now on the class door...
