Bouncing Basketballs!

Last night (Monday the 29th June) our Waiwera South basketball teams played their final games. Both teams had strong competition with very tight scores. The year seven and eights battled Warepa managing to pull ahead by 4 points in the last few minutes, winning 16-12. The year five and six team also played a very close game against Kaitangata, drawing 12-12 at the final whistle.
We have had a great few weeks playing basketball and have had a lot of fun!

Rippa Rugby Tournament

Last week the year 3-8's went to Balclutha for a Rippa Rugby tournament. There were lots of other schools from around South Otago there to compete against. Unfortunately none of the Waiwera teams took out the competition, however the year 3/4 made it to quarter finals. Overall it was a great day and we had a lot of fun!

Otago museum trip

Wednesday the 27th of May the whole school travelled to Dunedin to visit the Star Lab at the Otago Museum. It was a lot of fun and we learnt some interesting things about stars and their constellations.
Did you know that:
-The big red star in the sky is a giant star called Betelgeuse! This star is larger than the sun but is billions of light years away. Eventually it will blow up however when this happens we will not see it until 300 years later!  This means it may of already happened but we do not know.
-There are 88 constellations, we cannot see them though because they are different in the southern and northern hemisphere.
