Mandarin - Lantern Making

Today we had another Mandarin lesson with Amy. In today's session we made lanterns. We had a piece of red paper and we drew half the pattern on the edge of the folded red paper. When we cut out the paper it made the full symmetrical lantern shape.

Inquiry Update - What can I tell you about me?

The Seniors have been very busy getting their going further projects for our inquiry topic finished this week. We are presenting these projects about "What can I tell you about me?" at our Whanau Afternoon on Wednesday at 1:45 for anyone who is coming along.

It is pleasing to see students finding out lots of information at home to help with their questions.

The students have been working on their visual presentation skills and making sure they are visually appealing. It is great to see a variety of presentations happening both digitally and by hand.

I can't wait to see the finished projects presented at the Whanau afternoon.

Venison for lunch

Today we were lucky enough to have some yummy venison brought in for lunch. The venison was from a deer that Holly shot down in the Chaslands. The venison was gobbled up by the hungry Senior Room students. The honey soy marinade was delicious!

Thank you Janelle and Dean for cooking it up and sharing it with us.

Teach Me - Banoffee Pie

On Tuesday David brought in the ingredients to make a banoffee pie.

We all enjoyed helping David make the pie and watch him do each step of the recipe.

While the pie was a bit crumbly it was still very yummy!

Thank you David for your morning programme.

Elgregoe!!

Elgregoe!!! on PhotoPeach On Friday the 31st March Elgregoe's magic show came to Waiwera South. Elgregoe is a great magician and ventriloquist for all ages. His show was called "You've Got the Power" sponsored by Trustpower and he performed to Waiwera South and Clinton School at the Waiwera South Community Hall.

Elgregoe's show was about anti-bullying and he taught us why bullying is such a horrible thing. Some of his key messages were;

To used your WITS :
Walk away
Ignore
Talk to a teacher/adult
Stay away

To be a HERO in our school:
Honesty
Empathy
Respect/resilient
Opportunities

Elgregoe had a lot of parrot tricks, where he made birds appear out of nowhere. He also chopped a Clinton School student in half.

Some of our favourite tricks were:

- when he changed the African Grey Parrot into the beautiful Blue Macaw.
- when he brought out the chicken to test our honesty.
- when he got the net and made a tissue turn into a dove.
- the never ending jug of water.
- when the guinea pig turned into a scarf.
- the rabbit in the hat. Written by Senior Room Students
