ANZAC Day 2016

This afternoon Hamish McCallum came to talk to the school about ANZAC Day and New Zealand's involvement  in World War 1. We found out about he animals and the roles they played in the war. We also spent time putting the crosses of soldiers who died in the war. The 6 big crosses at the front are those of Ex-Waiwera South School students who died in war. Some not much older than our Year 8 students.

What's going on in the kitchen-Making Ice Cream

For our final session of our Science Inquiry: What's going on in the kitchen? we had two experiments going on, one was making Sherbert with Mrs Ramsay and Miss Taylor took the making ice cream group.

We have learned a lot about scientific experiments and the process that occurs during each experiment.

ANZAC Day word clouds.

The Senior Room have created word clouds using tagul.com with vocabulary based around ANZAC Day. This activity was part of our literacy can do activities for the last two weeks of term. They are an effective way to display key words about a topic.

ANZAC Activities

This week the Senior Room have been doing ANZAC Activities for literacy. There are a variety of activities for the children to complete including; watching videos to inspire art, word clouds with ANZAC vocabulary, finding out about friendship in the war and more!

It has been awesome to see the students taking their learning further by building trenches in the sandpit at school and getting our middle and junior room friends involved too!

Coding

This week the Senior Room tried their hands at coding. The children enjoyed the challenge of creating their own games and working through the different levels.
